Managing Fire to Restore and Maintain Grand Canyon's Forest

Presented by Prescott Public Library at Prescott Public Library

    September 11, 2011

The Grand Canyon Association, KNAU and the library partner to present these popular lectures. Managing Fire to Restore and Maintain Grand Canyon's Forest presented by Windy Bunn. Everyone knows that fire destroys, but fire can also help keep a forest healthy! For the past 30 years, fire managers at Grand Canyon's National Park have been using prescribed fire and wildfire to restore and maintain Grand Canyon's forested plateaus. Effectively managing a landscape of this scale requires science-based planning and adaptive management that includes monitoring, research, and interdisciplinary coordination. Join Windy Bunn, fire ecologist for Grand Canyon National Park, as she explains how and why fire is used to manage and maintain Grand Canyon's forest.
