Ellsworth and Emery Kolb: A Centennial of River Adventure, Featuring the Grand Canyon Film Show
May 8, 2011
During the fall and winter of 1911-12, pioneering Grand Canyon photographers Ellsworth and Emery Kolb rowed down the Green and Colorado rivers and through the Grand Canyon. Remarkably, they brought a new-fangled motion picture camera along for the ride and became the first to record the Grand Canyon on motion picture film. The resulting movie, with additional Canyon and River footage, was shown at the Grand Canyon for over sixty years. In celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of their big trip in Grand Canyon history, join NAU Special Collections Librarian and Grand Canyon historian Richard Quartaroli for a ride of a lifetime with this special screening of the movie.
