Canyon Country Community Lecture Series: Preposterous Lake Powell
November 14, 2010
In 2005 Lake Powell had fallen 145 feet from its full pool level and had lost two-thirds of its pre-drought volume. During the past five years, generous spring inflows have raised the level of the lake by sixty-five feet, about one-fifth of its full volume. Against this backdrop of dramatic recent changes in lake levels, and its history of controversy over the flooding of the free flowing Colorado River in Glen Canyon, award-winning landscape photographer Gary Ladd will present a visual overview of Lake Powell, a place he regards as a curiously interesting and astonishingly photogenic feature of the Colorado Plateau. The Grand Canyon Association, KANU and the library partner to present these popular lectures.
